Merry Christmas to me:
No more green and red, ratty, saggy recliners. No more hand-me-downs. I feel like a real grown-up now. We are looking forward to trying different arrangements to make the most of the recliners that are on the ends of each couch for perfect football viewing.
These couches have been a long time coming. When we bought our house in Mississippi, we dreamed of buying new furniture to fill it, but instead got to replace the entire ductwork and HVAC system in our new house. Our friends donated their sectional and provided us with seating that perfectly suited our needs, and we were saved from folding chairs in front of the TV. When we moved to Utah, we left the enormous sectional behind, planning on buying new furniture with the profits from the sale of our home in Mississippi. Again, that didn't work out, due to the crash in the housing market, and we ended up feeling grateful to sell our house at all. My grandma moved and gave us her old living room set, and again, we were grateful.
But I am in my 30s now. It's time to pick out my own furniture. To have a grown-up living room. And for Christmas this year, Tim got me couches. Thanks honey. I feel like I can have a party at my house now without spraying the furniture with Febreeze.

Merry Christmas!!!!!! You should do other grown up things to celebrate, like pay bills or golf.
YEAH!!!! I love new furniture! It totally made me feel grown up too the first time I bought a new living room set. Enjoy it. You deserve it!
Very nice! We finally bought new couches about 2 years ago after having hand me downs for the first 10 years of marriage. It is nice to be able to invite people over without needing to apologize for what they are sitting on (although now I'm paranoid that something might happen to my beautiful furniture).
P.S. As long as kids are around you will still end up febreezing things, it just a fact of life.
Rachel, I already have the golf clubs. If it weren't 20 degrees outside, I'd be at the golf course right now. Jolene, you're right. I have spent the last 2 days following Tyler's sippy cups around and yelling at Jacob to get his dirty shoes out of my living room. But they are glorious to have.
Yea! Isn't it a wonderful thing to choose your own furniture?! I'm very happy for you. The couches look great!
At least you've owned a house. I'm dreadfully behind in the grown up department:(
