The review I did of Breaking Dawn is glaring at me every time I look at my blog. I'm not saying I'm sorry I did it, I'm saying, it's been a while since I posted and I'm guessing the 3 people who read my blog would probably appreciate something new to look at. The problem is, I just don't have that much to say right now. I think my problem is that I'm 7 months pregnant and my brain retains about 20 seconds of information before it turns to mush and I can't think anymore. So I'm going to list a few random things that are on my mind that wouldn't really warrant a full post.
1. Am I an old fogey, because I just don't get what the big deal is with texting! I realize I am way behind the times here, but I'd like to know why it's so great. If I were in high school, or even college, and had something really urgent to say to a friend in the middle of class, like, "Oh my heck, that new guy is HOT!" or "Your fly is down. LOL," I'd get it. But it seems like most grown-ups are doing it, too. In the middle of movies and conversations and fun nights out. It seems like, since it doesn't make noise, it's perfectly acceptable to carry on a text conversation in the middle of dinner while people are trying to carry on a conversation with you VERBALLY. You know, when you talk to people in person? I don't want to make this post turn into "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People," so if you love texting, I love you, but I just don't get it. It seems like we're losing our ability to interact with other people face to face. (And here I am, on my computer writing a blog. I know it's a little hypocritical.) I'm a proud owner of a pre-paid, emergency-only Tracfone, and I ask you to please explain.
2. I love the TV show "So You Think You Can Dance." I really enjoyed this past season, and, being a Utahn, I was happy to cheer on our 4 representatives. Of course, I never vote on shows. Too lazy. I just yell at the TV when someone gets the boot that didn't deserve it. So I was very sad to see Chelsea from Pleasant Grove get sent home instead of what's-her-name from Jersey. I really missed Shane Sparks as a judge and choreographer this season, and wondered where he'd gone until I tuned into "America's Best Dance Crew" and saw that he'd become a judge there. I guess that's more his scene than trying to analyze a Fox Trot, but I wish he'd come back to SYTYCD. Any other fans out there? Remember last season's Transformer dance with Pasha and Lauren? So much fun. Now there's a new hip hop choreography team, Tabatha and Napoleon, and I'm sure they are great, but every dance they do is all touchy-feely and has some complex back story. How about just for fun? Besides the disappearance of Shane Sparks, though, I think the show is improving each season. I think Cat Deeley is a fantastic host (have you ever seen Ryan Seacrest outside in the blowing snow interviewing hopefuls and doing a happy dance with them? I know I haven't). I thought the dancers this year were fantastic. And I was very happy that Josh the street dancer won. He was amazing. I just wonder if he'll disappear like Sabra, the winner from last season, did. I hope not.
3. On the continued subject of TV, has anyone else started writing the dates of the new seasons on their September calendars? After a really boring summer of TV reruns and (mostly) lame reality shows, I am thrilled to have my shows back: "The Office," "Chuck," "House, MD," "Ugly Betty," "America's Next Top Model," "Dancing With the Stars," and others that I can't think of right now. I saw the teaser for "The Office" while watching the Olympics last night with my husband and we both shouted with joy. I miss Dwight. I just wish the last week of September were sooner. Of course, at that point my feet will be twice their normal size and I'll be happy to make it from bed down the stairs to the couch in time for my shows.
4. Does it bother anyone else that Walmart won't even put your bags in your cart anymore? It's not just that they won't do it, they start putting other people's stuff in bags before you've had a chance to lift the 50 lb. box of detergent from the top of the bag carousel into your cart. And they give you this look like you're IN THE WAY. I love that they stack 3 gallons of milk and a carton of eggs on top, then double up the bags, all while you're answering their 50 questions about whether the store was clean (no) and did the checker greet you (no) and is this amount okay (3 times). Boo on Walmart. I swore when I moved away from the South that I would never shop there again, but when there's non-food stuff to buy as well as groceries, the 5 minute drive seems so convenient compared to the 25 minutes to Target. So not worth it. I made a goal this week that the 25 minutes would NOT matter and I will boycott Walmart until they start doing their job (which is never).
Yep, that's what's been on my mind this week. Not a whole lot. It's clear I've been to Walmart recently and that there's nothing to watch on TV. Now I'm off to figure out dinner.

Oh my gosh, I total put The Office premiere on my calendar! We are such dorks! I also am addicted to House, but my other favs are 30 Rock, Lost, Bones and (secretly) Ugly Betty.
I swore off Wal-Mart too, but alas, I still have to go there occasionally. But not as often, thank heavens.
I've just become a texter, but that's out of necessity to communicate with my younger siblings. Think of it as shorter e-mails in your hand. But I refuse to use the abbreviations. It's the whole tamale for me, baby.
I saw the commercial for the beginning of the Office and my husband and I both looked at each other and said..."Not until SEPTEMBER!!!!" Anyways, I am excited about the new seasons of shows. Even though I hate waiting for the next weeks episode it's better then the crap on TV now!!! Thank goodness for Netflix, at least then I have something to watch if all else fails...which is most nights! Actually the Olympics have been really awesome! I can't say that i watch the dancing show, I've seen it maybe 2 times, so sorry.
I don't get the texting thing either! All I know is that when someone sends me a text, whether I want it or not(usually NOT), I get charged. I keep getting some kind of advertisement and I don't know how to stop it!!!!!
And as for Walmart, well don't get me started! If I could boycott them i would...but the dang store is just too convenient and it's usually cheaper. Evil Walmart! Grrrr I tried to make it so that I will only go there once a month, and so far, not so good. As far as the baggers go, I think it depends on your checker. Some will get your bags for you, MOST won't, and i agree that they look at you like you are in the way of them bagging up the person's stuff behind you. I also hate that they put one thing in a bag and you end up going out with 20 bags for 21 things. Haven't they seen the Planet Earth Documentary??? (Very good BTY)
Alright, I'm making a bad habit of leaving long comments sorry. (Oh, BTY Rachel check out the response I gave to your memory comment.)
Have a good one!
Rachel I cannot wait until September to watch Ugly Betty. For last year's season premire I was sure to have Jacob before then so I wouldn't be in labor missing the premire.
Rachel, first, I love that you unabashed talk about ALL the TV shows you love. And there are lots. Sometimes, when I talk about a TV show I like, the person will saying annoying self-righteous things like, "I don't have time for TV."
And I feel like saying, "Oh, yeah. Haven't you heard of Tivo? I mostly don't watch my shows when they're on but at 11:00 at night when the kids are in bed, Wendell is home from work and THERE IS NOTHING ELSE ON. So there."
Second, I love that Emma doesn't comment on your blog either. So even as I feel like I'm having this happy, interesting, onesided conversation...it's nice to know you're in the same boat.
I'm totally with ya on the texting (don't get it) and the love/hate relationship with Walmart. The service (or lack thereof), icky employees and generally filthy feel get the big thumbs down--but the prices--I routinely find identical items at Acres for twice (TWICE)what they cost at Walmart. I'm just not rich enough to boycott the big W, no matter how much I want to.
Karina, you're so right about the prices. I went shopping a few days ago at Acres and almost threw up when I saw how much bread cost. It's hard to boycott. Actually, I went there this morning to buy a few craft supplies. It wasn't as bad when I only had one bag to grab after snatching my receipt and jamming my wallet in my purse. I escaped with my stuff in time to not accidentally grab the lady's bag of hair products that was behind me.
I TOTALLY agree with you on texting. I don't get it either. It's so much faster to talk to people verbally - not to mention more fun and more personal! And, you don't have to guess on what a million acronyms mean. I'll be an old fogey with you!
You already know how I feel about all those tv shows...exactly like you. The commercial of Dwight talking about the centathalon KILLS me.
And I would be okay with texting if people would use it for what it was created, a quick way to get the word out - not a means of actually communication between two people. and I would be okay with abbreviations if they came from a 16 year old, but they usually come from my friends in their 30s. that is just plain embarassing.
I know this doesn't really fit with your post, but....HAPPY BIRTHDAY RACHEL!!!! You're a super-fantastic sister! I hope you have a fabulous day, and that your pizzocheri is all you ever dreamed of.
Sooooooo....Miss Rachel hss a blog too! Yay! I just found Stephanie on Facebook, and I've been trying to figure out for a very long time how I was going to track all of you down :) I can't wait to catch up with you! Where are you by the way???
Kate L.
You crack me up! I hadn't read this blog before but I love it! You say some funny crap! I'm with you on the texting. If you have that much to text, why not call? I only text when I have something to say & I don't feel like talking. (I know, shocking!) So much more to comment but I'll just text you during the party tonight!
First of all, thanks for the backup, everyone, on the texting business. I admit, a few days ago our friends were in town and we were heading down to visit family and they were ahead of us in their car, and sent a few texts to warn us of upcoming traffic they'd just suffered through, and I saw a purpose. It took me like an hour just to text back, "thanks," because I don't have a fancy phone and have to hit the button 5 times to get the right letter. So, yes, there is a purpose.
Kate, HI!!!! I have been wondering where you were for ages!!! And I saw your picture with brown hair and it took me a minute to recognize you, because I have only ever seen you blonde. We're in Ogden now. Come visit!
Jackie, I'll be sure to bring my tracfone so you can text me at book group.
Emma, thanks for the birthday wishes! I made my favorite dinner and enjoyed every bite.
Jenna, my DVR is all set for next months TV-palooza. I watch while Jacob's napping or while Tim plays computers.
Hi Rachel, I'm a friend of Emma's. I surfed over from her blog just to see who you were! When I lived in Germany I understood texting. Over in Europe, texting is way cheaper than calling, so kids buy the pre-paid phones and SMS (as they call texting). And the abbreviations came about to get around having to type a number three or four times to get to the right letter, before the full keyboard phones came out. It all makes total sense. But HERE in the US? I discovered when I went six months ago to sign up for my first-ever US cell phone plan that TEXTING COSTS EXTRA. Are you SERIOUS??? And parents have the nerve to complain about their kids texting all the time when the PARENTS INCLUDE IT in the kids' cell phone plans that the PARENTS PAY FOR??? So yeah, I don't get it either.
Wal-Mart? Don't get me started, but I can't afford not to shop there, either. Diapers and wipes for two of my three kids = submission to the evil empire.
You're funny and I wish you luck with Mom-Brain. My youngest is already five months and my M-B only seems to be getting worse.
Chrysta
P.S. If you ever hear from Emma, tell her hello. And how's her thumb? And Naomi's feet? And the van? And the furniture? She's gone AWOL from her own blog, probably because of the missing thumb...
